On August 23, the Innovation and Creativity (Tianjin) Contest of the 7th China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition 2024 took place in Tianjin, under the joint sponsorship of Tianjin Research Institute for Advanced Medical Device Innovation, China Strategic Alliance of Medical Device Innovation, Tianjin Administration for Market Regulation, Tianjin Municipal Medical Products Administration, Dongli District People’s Government and Innomd.org.
The contest themed on “Innovation Drives Development, Technology Leads the Future” was aimed to encourage healthcare facilities, research institutes and academic institutions and relevant enterprises to develop innovative technologies and transform scientific research achievements in medical device field, promote the innovation ecosystem construction of medical device industry in Tianjin, and drive the high quality development of the industry.
During the intense competition, over 30 high-quality entries were received from all over the country, involving multiple fields from intelligent diagnostic equipment to new biological materials, and from minimally invasive surgical instruments to remote medical systems, which fully demonstrated the innovative vitality and development potential of medical device industry in China.
Moreover, the contestants won hearty rounds of applause from judges and audience for their unique innovative concepts and solid technical strength. The jury consisting of industry experts, senior investors and renowned scholars not only performed professional review on the entries, but also provided pertinent suggestions and guidance to help the contestants further improve the entries.
After fierce competition, several entries won out over others by virtue of innovativeness, practicality and market potential; among them, 2 entries won the first prize, 4 won the second prize, 6 won the third prize and 14 won the winning prize.

An on-site consulting and mentoring platform was concurrently set around the core members of Tianjin Municipal Medical Products Administration, Tianjin Center for Medical Device Review and Inspection, and Tianjin Medical Device Quality Supervision and Testing Center to provide all-round supports for participating enterprises, which covered multiple service fields including enterprise settlement, inspection and testing, clinical trial, registration and review, OEM, and investment and finance.
Subsequently, a paired-up assistance session will be set for settled enterprises, with senior personnel designated for “one-to-one” assistance to help enterprises address difficulties in time. Tianjin Research Institute for Advanced Medical Device Innovation will also be invited to jointly provide enterprises with resource alignment throughout the ecological process of “industrialization, education, research, medicine, results transformation, financial support and service” and push forward the implementation of projects.
The success of contest not only presented a platform for presentation and communication for innovators in medical device industry, also had important implications for driving the innovative development of medical device industry in Tianjin and even across the country. We expect that more innovative projects can be transformed into practical products and services through the competition. We see the infinite potential of medical device industry in the competition and believe that the joint efforts of all parties concerned will usher in a brighter future of medical device industry.
