The Xi’an Contest of 6^th China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition 2023 and 1^st Xi’an Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition were grandly opened in the charming ancient capital, Xi’an, on July 25! Several distinguished guests attended the opening ceremony to jointly witness the opening of the Xi’an Contest of China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition (“Contest”) and the flourishing of the medical device industry in Xixian New Area, Xi’an. The Contest aims to stimulate the vitality of medical device innovation, promote the implementation and transformation of medical device innovations in the industry and build a bridge for the progress and development of the medical device industry. Nearly 80 projects in three category contests will compete here from July 25 to 26.

Grand Opening

 

According to Yao Haijun, member of the Party Working Committee of Xixian New Area & Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Administration Committee of Fengdong New City, in the opening remarks, Xixian New Area, the first state-level new area in China with the theme of innovating the model of urban development, has been adhering to the innovation-driven development strategy since establishment and has successively set up a large number of innovation service platforms, such as the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour, and introduced a series of policy measures to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. Xixian New Area has also been selected by national ministries and commissions as one of the first national innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration bases.

 

He stated that in the process of advancing high-quality development by building “the Window” of Qin Chuang Yuan Innovation Platform, Xixian New Area sticks to the medical device industry as one of the pillar industries and has synchronously built a group of specialized industrial parks including the Shaanxi Digital Medicine Industrial Park and the Qinhan Health Science and Technology Industrial Park. In particular, with the strong support from China Strategic Alliance of Medical Device Innovation and Shaanxi Medical Products Administration, Xixian New Area has successfully established and launched the Xi’an Service Center for Medical Device Innovation and settled this state-level industrial institution in Fengdong New City of Xixian New Area. Currently, Xixian New Area is focusing on building a new ecosystem for medical device industry development, which integrates industry, education, research and investment.

 

He stated that through the Contest, Xixian New Area will seize the opportunities of the times, integrate innovative resources and promote industrial development and will continue to leverage the innovation advantages of “the Window” of Qin Chuang Yuan Innovation Platform, strive to build a first-class sci-tech innovation service system and furnish the most thoughtful services, a first-class business environment and the most preferential policies to every friend who comes to Xixian New Area for innovation, entrepreneurship, investment and development.

 

 

Qi Huili, Deputy Director of the Shaanxi Medical Products Administration, mentioned in her speech that medical devices are closely related to people’s health and well-being and are an important foundation for the construction of the medical and health system. She stated that the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee and the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government attach great importance to the development of the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, have made pharmaceutical and medical device industries future pillar industries in their plans for the 14^th Five-Year Plan period and long-range objectives through the year 2035 for layout planning and vigorous development and have successively introduced a series of encouraging policies and support plans, including the reform to deepen the product approval system in Shaanxi Province and implementation plans for encouraging pharmaceutical and medical device innovation. She mentioned that over the past two years, the Shaanxi Medical Products Administration has earnestly implemented the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee and the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government and has developed 33 measures to encourage the high-quality development of the medical industry and incubated nine measures for medical device review and approval in close conjunction with Shaanxi Province’s actual situations; the Shaanxi Medical Products Administration supports the implementation of the “100 staff members helping 100 enterprises” policy to give priority to R&D and production enterprises of innovative medical devices in early involvement, registration inspections and technology approval.

 

She stated that the China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition is an important platform for showcasing and exchanging views on, conducting industry-research cooperation in and incubating, implementing and transforming the achievements of innovative medical device projects, and holding the Contest in Shaanxi Province shows both the support of China Strategic Alliance of Medical Device Innovation to Shaanxi Province and a specific measure of the medical industry to implement the policies of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee and the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government and provides a broad platform to promote the healthy and rapid growth of micro, small and medium-sized technology enterprises.

 

 

Jiang Feng, President of China Strategic Alliance of Medical Device Innovation, stated in his speech that the China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition, as part of “Innovation China” activities, is the most authoritative professional event in China’s medical device industry, which boasts the strongest jury and the highest-quality competing projects; a total of 369 first-prize, second-prize and third-prize projects have been selected from the finals of the first five sessions, which obtained total financing of more than RMB 6.7 billion according to post-competition half-year tracking statistics, and some of which subsequently obtained project funding from ministries, commissions, provinces, cities or parks and won the prizes of other competitions, giving a strong impetus to the integration and healthy development of the industry innovation chain, industrial chain and service chain.

 

He stated that the Contest is the starting point of industrial transformation, and to promote projects to settle in Xi’an and better conduct post-Contest services, China Strategic Alliance of Medical Device Innovation has set up the Xi’an Service Center for Medical Device Innovation with the care and support of the CPC Xi’an Municipal Committee and the Xi’an Municipal Government; the said center gathers and brings in various innovation service organizations and resources to provide, at one stop, more than 20 services including project feasibility research, design R&D, clinical trials, registration, regulatory consulting, investment and financing and market matchmaking for the achievement transformation and industrial implementation of innovative medical device projects in Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province and the western region.

 

Next, leaders from the Ministry of Science and Technology and Xi’an City unveiled the Xi’an Service Center for Medical Device Innovation, the fourth service center for medical device innovation established by China Strategic Alliance of Medical Device Innovation in China. The Xi’an Center will publicize and introduce the innovation and entrepreneurship policy environment of Xixian New Area to the industry by holding a series of events and forums and will actively build an entire industry service ecosystem, establish relevant industry funds and promote the aggregation and development of innovative medical device enterprises.

After the intense competition of nearly 20 projects, the category contest of chronic disease management and mobile telemedicine of the 6^th China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition 2023 came to a conclusion today.
