The final of the Contest of Minimally Invasive Instruments and Implantation and Intervention Products, the final of the Contest of Wearable and Telemedicine Products, and the Contest of Industrial Transformation in the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone - Xiaoshan Division of the 5th China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition 2022 (“Competition”) came to a successful conclusion on September 24.

The Competition received strong support from the Xiaoshan Innovation Polis of Hangzhou City. Xiaoshan District of Hangzhou City has been at the frontier of innovative development in a competing and pioneering spirit.

A one-billion industrial development fund has been set up by the Xiaoshan Innovation Polis to promote industry agglomeration and has so far successfully invested and implemented several industrial projects to attract enterprises to settle down and accelerate the industrialization process. Furthermore, Hoshi Capital has set up a special fund in association with Jindi Xindao Langu Biomedical Industrial Park, to invest in quality biomedical enterprises. During the three-day Competition, participating project teams had in-depth exchanges with the Xiaoshan Economic and Technological Development Zone, the Xiaoshan Innovation Polis, and investment institutions, and teams of many excellent projects were very interested in local policies and intended to settle down in Xiaoshan. As a result, interested project representatives entered into letters of intent to cooperate with investment institution representatives on site, to contribute to the development of the medical device industry in the Xiaoshan Innovation Polis.

The Competition received strong support from the People’s Government of Xiaoshan District and the Administrative Committee of Xiaoshan Economic and Technological Development Zone. Xu Chang, a member of the Standing Committee of Xiaoshan District Party Committee and Director of the Administrative Committee of Xiaoshan Economic and Technological Development Zone, gave a speech. In his speech, he first expressed his most sincere congratulations to the winning projects, and he mentioned that the Competition closely followed the major needs of the country and the development of the times, covered numerous segments of medical devices, and, through exchanges of ideas during the Competition, all participating industry practitioners appreciated new technologies, understood new trends, and deeply felt the new developments and new achievements in the area of medical devices.

According to him, innovation is still the main theme of development in the area of medical devices and should be the breakthrough point for building a sci-tech innovation exemplar in life and health. He said that the Competition opened a new chapter in the medical device industrial chain construction in Xiaoshan, and he sincerely wished that all participating projects in the Competition could expand and grow in the Xiaoshan Economic and Technological Development Zone and looked forward to the introduction of more quality projects and talents to the Xiaoshan Economic and Technological Development Zone to jointly build a biomedical industry economic zone.

He said that Xiaoshan District would give full play to the interconnected effects of pilot free trade zones, further support the joint innovation of enterprises, and optimize the business environment so that the broad entrepreneurs can invest in innovation, start businesses without worry, and grow smoothly, to jointly build a high-level medical device industry in the country and promote the medical device industry innovative development in Xiaoshan and even the country.


As the innovation platform of the Xiaoshan Economic and Technological Development Zone, the Xiaoshan Innovation Polis is young and attractive, uniquely located on a core node of the Yangtze River Delta city cluster. The Xiaoshan Innovation Polis now has a “2+2+X” industrial system, with a focus on two future industries: biotechnology and medical devices. In the Xiaoshan Innovation Polis, a group of excellent leading enterprises have been cultivated and incubated, and an industrial cluster has been formed preliminarily. Since its inception, the Xiaoshan Innovation Polis has set high-positioning, high-starting point, and high-requirement standards and has been focused on building high-end supporting facilities, so as to furnish talents who come for innovation and entrepreneurship with an international environment suitable for living and working.
Furthermore, projects of the Competition that win the first, second, and third prizes, if settled down in Xiaoshan, will be given project and talent support according to the excellence, pilotage, and emergence standards in Xiaoshan District’s “5213” Plan, with the maximum financial support of RMB 6 million to the projects and of RMB 15 million to particularly significant projects.
According to the competitive cultivation pattern of “incubation - acceleration - industrial base - headquarters”, the Xiaoshan Innovation Polis is building an industrial carrier of more than 3 million square meters, with a goal to build a biomedical sci-tech innovation exemplar with international influence and make itself a new leader in life sciences in China and even the world!
Further, products participating in the Competition, if tested at the Zhejiang Institute of Medical Device Testing (Hangzhou Testing Center of National Medical Products Administration), will all be eligible to take the green channel of the Zhejiang Institute of Medical Device Testing, to accelerate testing and enjoy one-on-one dedicated services.
