The finals of the 4th China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition 2021 kicked off on November 26, which, originally scheduled to take place at Kempinski Hotel Suzhou, were urgently changed to take place online in order to meet the emergency COVID-19 prevention and control requirements of Suzhou. Despite the pause, the organizing committee has promptly scheduled the online activities to ensure the smooth conduct of the finals, and the online finals of the 4th China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition 2021 have been recognized and supported by the contestants and judges.
The China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition (“Competition”) has been committed to stimulating the innovation vitality of clinicians, enterprises and research personnel, strengthening connections between innovation & clinical application and capital, and deepening the cooperation among the medical device industry, universities, research institutions, users, capital sector and regulators in all aspects, so as to promote the continuous innovation and development of China’s medical device industry. The Competition has been successfully held for three consecutive sessions under the guidance of the Department of Science and Technology for Social Development of the Ministry of Science and Technology and China National Center for Biotechnology Development and has collected 283, 607, and 665 medical device innovation projects, respectively. The Competition and its supporting activities have cumulatively attracted the participation of more than 1,200 enterprises and innovation service and investment institutions, the visits of more than 30,000 persons on site, and the presence of many minister and commission heads and academicians and more than 100 authoritative regulation and industry experts to provide guidance on site. A total of 167 first-prize, second-prize and third-prize projects have been selected from the finals of the three sessions of the Competition, which cumulatively obtained financing of more than RMB 4.2 billion according to post-competition half-year tracking statistics, and some of which subsequently obtained project funding from ministries, commissions, provinces, cities or the army and won the prizes of other competitions. The Competition has effectively promoted the transformation of medical device achievements and has received wide appreciation.
The 4th China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition launched online registration on March 5, 2021 and has attracted a total of 831 projects to apply by June 20, creating a new high. After the fierce preliminaries and semifinals, a total of 86 projects were shortlisted for the four finals of the high-value consumables and implantation and intervention products, deep human phenotyping contest, large and medium-sized diagnosis and treatment equipment & first aid and life support equipment, and growth group and industry transformation contest!
The 4th China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition 2021 has further upgraded the categories into in vitro diagnostic (IVD) products; medical dressings, infusion and care products; surgical and minimally invasive instruments; high-value consumables and implantation and intervention products; deep human phenotyping; large and medium-sized diagnosis and treatment equipment & first aid and life support; artificial intelligence and medical software; household, TCM, rehabilitation physiotherapy and fitness and health equipment; anti-epidemic, infection control and disinfection products; and growth group to select the projects more accurately.
Despite twists and turns due to COVID-19, all contestants at this session of Competition have been enthusiastic and have competed fiercely for rounds in the preliminaries, semifinals, and finals, where they had in-depth discussions with the judges and experts concerning their projects’ innovativeness and future trends and presented us a series of “shows” of innovative medical devices.
