80 Projects in the Four Semi-finals of China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition 2019 Compete in Weihai

On August 6 and 7, semi-finals of China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition 2019 in terms of optics, mechanics and electronics, in vitro diagnostics, AI and software, and materials and accessories technology were held in Weihai. As the most important session of this Competition, semi-finals in Weihai constituted 80 excellent innovation and entrepreneurship projects for on-site roadshows and gained substantial supports from Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province, Weihai Municipal People’s Government, Bureau of Science and Technology of Weihai and other local government agencies.

Academician Ge Junbo leads the judge panel & four semi-finals launch at the same time

On August 6, a number of experts and leaders attended the launching ceremony of semi-final in Weihai, including Ge Junbo, renowned expert in cardiovascular field and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yu Hongwen, the member of Party Group and deputy director-general of Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province, Zhang Wei, deputy mayor of Weihai Municipal People’s Government, Jiang Feng, director of China Strategic Innovation Alliance of Medical Device Technology and standing vice president of China Association for Medical Devices Industry (CAMDI), Wang Houquan, director of Bureau of Science and Technology of Weihai, Zhang Huawei, chairman of Shandong Weigao Group Medical Polymer Co., Ltd., person responsible for the institution directly under Weihai Municipal People’s Government, people in charge of each district and city, and head of department of science and technology and commercial department of each district and city.

A total of 29 specialists (led by Academician Ge Junbo) in the sectors of registration, technology, clinic and investigation were invited to attend this semi-final in Weihai as judges. Semi-finals of four categories including optics, mechanics and electronics, in vitro diagnostics, AI and software, and materials and accessories technology were held at the same time. There were 20 projects for each group, and each project was subject to a 20-minute presentation, including 15 minutes for speech and five minutes for questions and answers session with the judges and judges scoring. At last, two first prizes, three second prizes, five third prizes and ten excellent prizes were awarded in the semi-final according to the scores made based on six dimensions: innovation, scientificity, technology maturity, application value, social significance, and risk analysis.


Weihai government provides sound support for semi-final & competitors praise the entrepreneurial environment

As the local co-organizers of China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition 2019, Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province, Weihai Municipal People’s Government, Bureau of Science and Technology of Weihai provided substantial support for this event. At present, all competent departments in Weihai take “developing Weihai towards exquisite city” as the general objective, overall direction and general principle, fully implement the strategy of innovation-driven development, and focus on cultivating seven major industrial clusters valued around CNY 100 billion such as the medical device industrial cluster. After years of development, the medical device industrial clusters in Weihai have laid sound industrial foundation and possessed strong industrial collaborative innovation capability. With Shandong Weigao Group Medical Polymer Co., Ltd. as the leading enterprise and JW Medical Systems, Shandong GRED Medical Co., Ltd. and Weihai Strong Medical Sci-Tech Co., Ltd. as the pillars of innovative industrial clusters, Weihai has become a fertile ground for cluster development of medical device industry. A new platform for communication and cooperation between Weihai city and participating enterprises and teams is established in this competition. The first-class business environment, sound supporting policies and thoughtful service assurance were praised by competitors. Many contestants are interested in setting up their companies in Weihai.


Competition has hit the halfway point, final of competition & GDW draw attention

A total of 607 projects in the sectors of optics, mechanics and electronics, in vitro diagnostics, AI and software, and materials and accessories technology participated in China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition 2019. Nine semi-finals will be held in Chengdu, Weihai, Gaochun District, Nanjing and Beijing. At present, the competition has hit the halfway point. On August 1, the semi-final related to AI and software was held in Chengdu. On August 6 and 7, semi-finals in terms of optics, mechanics and electronics, in vitro diagnostics, AI and software, and materials and accessories technology were held in Weihai. In addition, other semi-finals will be held in Gaochun District, Nanjing and Beijing. The results of the semi-finals in the sectors of optics, mechanics and electronics, in vitro diagnostics, AI and software, and materials and accessories technology will be ranked nationally and published. The top 15 in each sector will enter the national final to be held in Suzhou and Kunshan on September 5.

In order to facilitate the matchmaking between the industry and projects that participated this competition or won prizes, the organizers also orchestrated the Global Device Week (GDW) to solicit and gather numerous enterprises and resources related to innovation service, fostering a series of concurrent events – “one innovation contest, one international exhibition and 4 keynote forums + 20 parallel sessions”. These enterprises and resources included innovative enterprises, scientific research institutes, clinical experts, third-party design OEM, as well as testing, animal and clinical testing institutions, patent agencies, upstream material accessories and technical service suppliers, medical device distribution channel alliance, park incubators and nearly 300 investment organizations.
