The conference was chaired by Tang Bo, Director of Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province. Yu Mengsun, Chen Runsheng, Fan Daiming, Yu Jinming and other academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering were present. Zhao Jiajun, Vice Chairman of Shandong Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Chairperson of China Zhi Gong Party Shandong Provincial Party Committee, Wu Yuanbin, Director-General of Department of Social Development, MOST, and Wang Luming, Party Secretary of Weihai, attended the conference and delivered a speech. Approximately 200 experts and principals from MOST, National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China, China National Drug Administration (CNDA), China National Center for Biotechnology Development, Center for Medical Device Evaluation, science and technology authorities of various provinces, National Clinical Medicine Research Center, key enterprises for medical devices, specialized parks, China Strategic Innovation Alliance of Medical Device Technology and industry associations took part in the conference.
Zhao Jiajun pointed out in his speech that medical devices were the important foundation for the establishment of medical health system and the strategic supporting force for safeguarding the national health. The government of Shandong province attaches great importance to health care which will be strongly promoted as one of the “top ten industries” for new and old kinetic energy conversion. This conference invited the elites from related fields in China. They deeply discussed the cutting-edge technology of medical devices and explored the plans for the innovation and development of medical devices in China for a new era, which was of great significance for promoting the rapid and sound development of related industries. Taking this conference as an opportunity, Shandong province will adhere to the principles that development is the top priority, talents are the primary resources and innovation is the driving force, focus on the construction of a “government-industry-university -research-capital-service-application” collaborative innovation system, and accelerate the scientific and technological innovation, achievement transformation and industrialization of medical devices, contributing to the high-quality development of China’s medical device industry.
According to the speech made by Wu Yuanbin, advanced medical devices are the main power to promote medical diagnosis and treatment technology, the core engine to optimize the supply of medical services, and the key to leading the transformation of medicine pattern. As a highly strategic and progressive driving force, medical devices are universally valued by all countries in the world, and they can be served as an important symbol of scientific and technological progress and ability to guarantee health for all. Exposed to new situation, new demands and new opportunities, MOST has gave priority to such key specialized programs as “Research and Development of Digital Medical Devices” and “Research and Development of Biomedical Materials and Repair and Replacement of Tissues and Organs”, and completed the preparation of the 13th Five-Year Special Plan for the Technological Innovation in the Health Industry and the 13th Five-Year Special Plan for Technological Innovations for Medical Devices, with the scientific and technological development in medical device industry as a strategic focus. During the 13th five-year plan, MOST will promote the integrated development of innovation chain, industry chain and service chain, enhance the cooperation among hospitals, scientific research institutions and medical device providers, improve the R & D innovation chain of medical devices and accelerate the transformation of the overall medical device industry to innovation-driven development, oriented by localization, high-end, branding and internationalization, driven by the breakthrough of core technology, focusing on the development of major products and guided by demonstration and popularization. Wu Yuanbin also stressed that the First National Technology Innovation Conference on Medical Devices was organized and held in the hope of pulling together the new drivers of science and technology, accelerating the improvement of China’s ability to independently innovate medical devices, promoting the transformation and upgrading of our medical device industry, and leading the innovation and development of medical devices.
This conference is the first national one on the scientific and technological innovation of medical devices. With the theme of “pulling together the new kinetic energy of science and technology to lead the innovation and development of medical devices”, the conference made a systematic summary of the innovation and development of the medical device industry in the past five years, and displayed a number of achievements in the scientific and technological innovation of medical devices in China. Besides, focusing on the needs of the medical device industry for development and innovation for a new era, this conference discussed the development trend of cutting-edge technologies in the medical device industry, and explored the new path and mode to promote independent innovation, integrated innovation and collaborative innovation in our medical device industry for a new era.
