Basic information on operation and quality benefits of the consumer goods industry in the first half of 2018: revenue of the pharmaceutical industry increased by 11% year-on-year.

I. Continuous growth in main business revenues. The main business revenues of the consumer goods industry totaled 15.0733 trillion, increasing by 7.3% year-on-year, an increase of 2.6 percentage points lower than that of the whole industry, 3.2 percentage points lower than the same period last year. The revenues from the light industry (excluding food), textile industry and food industry increased by 8.0%, 3.9% and 6.4% respectively; the revenues of pharmaceutical and tobacco industries increased by 13.2% and 10.5% respectively, and the growth rates were 0.6 and 11.1 percentage points higher than the same period last year, respectively.

II. Decline in profit growth. The total profit of the consumer goods industry was 998.24 billion, increasing by 7.5% year-on-year, an increase of 9.7 percentage points lower than that of the whole industry, 3.4 percentage points lower than the same period last year. The profits of the light industry (excluding food), textile industry, food industry, pharmaceutical industry and tobacco industry increased by 4.3%, 2.0%, 10.2%, 15.3% and 6.0% respectively.

III. Significant increase in the number of loss-making enterprises and the amount of losses. The number of loss-making enterprises in the consumer goods industry reached more than 27,000, an increase of 14.2% over the same period last year, and the growth rate was 15.3 percentage points higher over the same period last year. The losses of enterprises in consumer goods industry amounted to CNY 81.54 billion, 23.7% up over the same period last year, an increase of 31.1 percentage points over the same period last year. The amount of losses of the light industry (excluding food), textile industry and pharmaceutical industry increased by 40.2%, 18.0% and 27.7% respectively, and the growth rates were 46, 31.9, 40.8 percentage points higher than the same period last year, respectively. The tobacco industry losses were reduced by 52.9% year on year, and the growth rate was 113.8 percentage points higher than the same period last year.
