The basic information on the operating quality and efficiency of the consumer goods industry from January to April in 2018 are as follows; and the pharmaceutical industry profit increased by 16.9%.

I. Continuous growth in main business revenues. The main business revenue in the consumer goods industry was 9.92641 trillion yuan, up 8.5% from the same period last year, but the growth rate was 2 percentage points lower than the average growth rate for all industries and 1.3 percentage points lower than the same period last year. The revenues from the light industry (excluding food), textile industry and food industry increased by 9.4%, 4.3% and 7.7% respectively; the revenues of pharmaceutical and tobacco industries increased by 14.4% and 13.6% respectively, and the growth rates were 3.1 and 15.7 percentage points higher than the same period last year, respectively.

II. Decline in profit growth. The total profit of the consumer goods industry reached 646.51 billion yuan, an increase of 7.5% over the same period last year, but the growth rate was 7.5 percentage points lower than the average growth rate for all industries and 2.8 percentage points lower than the same period last year. The profits of the light industry (excluding food), food industry, pharmaceutical industry and tobacco industry increased by 3.9%, 10.4%, 16.9% and 8.8% respectively, and the profit of the textile industry decreased by 0.2% compared with the same period last year.

III. Significant increase in the number of loss-making enterprises and the amount of losses. The number of loss-making enterprises in the consumer goods industry reached 28,300, an increase of 12.8% over the same period last year, and the growth rate was 15.6 percentage points higher over the same period last year. The losses of enterprises in consumer goods industry amounted to 60.74 billion yuan, 23.4% up over the same period last year, an increase of 31.4 percentage points over the same period last year. The amount of losses of the light industry (excluding food), textile industry, pharmaceutical industry increased by 38.6%, 26.1% and 31.9% respectively, and the growth rates were 44.1, 44.4, 41.9 percentage points higher than the same period last year, respectively. The tobacco industry losses were reduced by 55.2% year on year, and the growth rate was 105.2 percentage points higher than the same period last year.
