On October 25, 2017, the Seminar for Innovative Development of Medical Device was held by the Social Development and Technology Division of the Ministry of Science and Technology and presided over by Tian Baoguo, the Deputy Director of the Division, to put into practice the guiding principles from General Secretary Xi Jinping's speeches at national assembly for technology innovation. The Seminar was attended by a total of 27 persons, including the heads of 8 companies leading the medical device industry such as Shenzhen Mindray, Shanghai United Imaging, Shandong Shinva, and Beijing Lepu Medical as well as 13 experts from Tsinghua University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Fuwai Hospital, Tiantan Hospital, and Chinese PLA General Hospital.

On the following day, a medical device innovative development seminar was held by the Ministry of Science and Technology for relevant departments and regions and was presided over by Wu Yuanbin, the Director of the Division. The Seminar was attended by more than 40 persons, including the representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, National Health and Family Planning Commission, China Food and Drug Administration, and provincial and municipal representatives of the “10, 100, 1000, & 10000 Project”. The attendees had a deep discussion on the issues arising in the development of technical innovation of the medical device in the new situation, and proposed comments and advices for the establishment of bases and platforms, optimization of relevant policies, achievement transformation and promotion of demonstration base. Wu pointed out the development of medical device technology field in China is at the key stage of transforming from imitation to innovation, when the technical integration crossing disciplines, fields and industries is urgently needed the “government-industry-university-research-medicine-test-finance” full chain innovative mechanism shall be improved, and the innovation mode of the medical device technology industry shall be further optimized.
