Neocis, a developer of robot medical equipment, recently announced, its robot navigation system - Yomi was approved by FDA 510 (k). The machine is used for the implant surgery of teeth, which is the first auxiliary system used for this kind of work approved by FDA/

The only dental surgery robot system approved by FDA

Neocis is a privately held company and its headquarters are in Miami, Florida. It was founded in 2012, and obtained financing of 1.32 million US dollars in round A in August 2014. Its core product is Yomi, a computerized navigation system designed to assist surgeons with tooth implantation before and during the surgery.

The system is run with the tactile robot technology, navigating and guiding surgical instruments as well as restraining drills in terms of directions and depth. Tactile robot technology provides physical guidance on the location, directions and depth of the drill. Unlike plastic surgical catheters, Yomi allows surgeons to operate visually on the surgical spots and provides them with flexibility to make correspondent changes during the surgery.

When used by a dentist, Yomi is able to make surgical procedures according to patients’ CT scanning. During the surgery, it systematically and continuously tracks the patient, and controls with great precision the direction of the drill while the clinician pushes the drill into the patient’s tissue, ensuring that the drill does not deviate from planned directions and depth.

Next step is to promote the system to more surgeons

Dental implantation surgery is a care standard to replace lost teeth. 15,000 dental experts and nearly 150,000 ordinary dentists perform about 4 million dental implantation surgeries annually in the US. The number of dental implantation surgeries goes up to 15 million annually worldwide. Apparently, market of the surgical robot is rapidly growing and the demand is vast. The market is estimated to reach 20 billion US dollars by 2021. Yomi is the only surgical robot system that focuses on the dental industry. The prospect of it is extremely promising.

Having been approved by FDA, Alon Mozes, co-founder of Neocis revealed, “We’re glad that Yomi has achieved an important milestone. Our next step is to make its advantages and conveniences known to more patients and surgeons and hopefully more leaders in the dental industry will endorse us.” From what is currently observed by vcbeat.net, Dr. Federico Grande, a famous US dental expert, expressed his willingness to show the machine and its reliability to his patients and provide them with the opportunity to try the world’s most advanced tooth implantation method. Meanwhile, tell his patients that the result of the surgery is also extremely reliable.
