The Lancet Publishes Global Residents Health Rankings, China Ranks 92

Researchers of University of Washington based on the evaluations in SDGs of the United Nations listed rankings of World’s Healthiest Countries and Regions published in The Lancet.

Evaluation items in the ranking list includes overweight, committed suicide, excessive drinking, smoking, AIDS, potable water, air pollution, warfare, malaria, etc. As the figure shows, among 188 countries and regions, China ranks 92, with a score of 60 out of 100. Top 3 is Iceland, Singapore and Sweden. Central African Republic, Somalia and South Sudan are at the bottom.

China’s ranking is negatively affected by high mortality rate due to natural calamities (39 points out of 100), mass infected population with hepatitis B (40 points), poor hygiene (38 points) and PM2.5 Air Pollution Index (25 points). The positive effect on the ranking is barely caused by the malaria (94 points), high-level obstetrics (97 points), low-level and ignored tropical disease transmission (89 points) and minimal domestic violence (96 points).

The standard of the rankings comprises the children and infant mortality rate, mortality rate

Due to traffic accidents, children obesity, alcohol and tobacco consumption, AIDS, tuberculosis, case rate, prevalence of hepatitis B and suicide rate.

USA ranks 28, not as high as expected. Researchers believe it was mainly due to the mortality rate due to AIDS, alcohol and children obesity. Rankings not as expected also include Libya and Syria, mainly owing to warfare.
