CAS Released 60 major Breakthroughs in the 13th Five-Year Plan: Including 17 Items for Life and Health.

On Oct. 31, Chinese Academy of Sciences held a press conference in Beijing and released Outline of the 13th Five-Year Plan by Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the Plan). The Plan mainly centers on 8 innovation fields including basic frontier technology crossing, advanced materials, energy sources, life and health, marine environment, resource and ecological environment, information and photonic space. Chinese Academy of Sciences concisely proposed 60 major breakthroughs expected for leapfrog development and 80 key cultivation objectives to mold the new advantages for future development. In these potential 60 major breakthroughs, Life and Health accounts for 17 items. Among them, for serious diseases of nervous, cardiovascular, alimentary, reproductive and metabolic systems, Chinese Academy of Sciences will aim at realization of tissue regeneration, organ rehabilitation, organ reconstruction and organ replacement to solve the basic scientific issues of cell potential and fate change mechanism, and to research and develop key technologies for organ rehabilitation and reconstruction.

According to the Plan, during the implementation period of 13th Five-Year Plan, centered on initial implementation of “Four Priorities” and based on comprehensively deepened reform, Chinese Academy Sciences will focus on classification reform for the research institution, talents development system and mechanism reform, “Increased Devolution, Enhanced Supervision and Service Activeness” scientific reform, key scientific results output-oriented resource allocation system reform and classification of technology evaluation system reform, and accelerate domestic and foreign opening-up cooperation and resource sharing etc.
