Huawei Working with WuXi AppTec on Normalization Attempt of Industrial Standards for Precision Medic

  • 2016-05-30

With the successive implementation of precision medicine research projects, the storage, analysis and sharing of related mass data such as large population-based genome, clinical characterization will face great challenge. WuXi AppTec and its subordinate, WuXi NextCODE and Huawei jointly released a cloud platform for precision medicine, “WuXi NextCODE Cloud” a few days ago. Its aim is to create a nationwide, safe and reliable cloud platform for precision medicine big data with unified standards and promote the integration and application of domestic genome information and precision medicine big data.

The jointly released “WuXi NextCODE Cloud” combines Huawei’s cloud computing ability and nationwide network infrastructure, WuXi AppTec’s pharmaceutical research and development ability and WuXi NextCODE’s end-to-end technology and experience in analysis, mining and sharing of genomics and precision medicine big data, according to related provisions of China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA), which creates a nationwide cloud service network platform for Chinese precision medicine big data.

Li Ge, the president and CEO of WuXi AppTec, notes that the big data cloud platform solution of WuXi AppTec and WuXi NextCODE has been verified internationally and plays a role in the state-level precision medicine projects of multiple countries and regions such as UK, USA and the Middle East. “WuXi NextCODE Cloud” will not only meet related national regulations but also lay the foundation for China’s future participation of global cooperation.

Zhang Huaidong, the vice president of Huawei Cloud Services states that “the features of precision medicine determine that it is inseparable with cloud services since it requires mass data to make analyses. Meanwhile, precision medicine has broad service area and high professional and safety requirements, which cannot be solved and provided by one Grade A tertiary hospital or one local information department. It is estimated that by the end of this year, the distribution of Huawei Cloud Services can be extended to the whole country (except for Tibet and Taiwan).”

Li Qing, the director of the Development Center for Medical Science and Technology of the National Health and Family Planning Commission says that “precision medicine is a key concern of 13th Five-Year Plan. We will follow up the development of WuXi NextCODE Cloud project, take the advices from the enterprise, industry and academic community, summarize good practices and suggestions and promote the sound development of this area more effectively”.
