On May 30, 2016, a historical event occurred in China's technology community. National Science and Technology Innovation Conference, the 18th Academician Assembly of CAS, the 13th Academician Assembly of CAE and the 9th National Convention of CAST were solemnly held at the Great Hall of the People. Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the PRC and the Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the PRC delivered an important speech and Li Keqiang, Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Liu Yunshan and Wang Qishan attended the conference.
Xi Jinping attended the conference and delivered an important speech. He stressed that the national science and technology was more prosperous, then the nation would be more prosperous, and technology was stronger, then our country would be stronger. Today, we hold this grand meeting to, based on the new historical starting point of the development of China, place science and technology in a more important place and blow the trumpet of establishing an advanced country in science and technology all around the world. To realize the goal of “two hundred years” and the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of China, we must adhere to independent innovation road with Chinese characteristics, face the world technological frontier, face the main battlefield of economy, face national great demands, accelerate in scientific and technological innovation in any field and master the first chance of global competition of science and technology. This is the starting point that we propose to establish an advanced country in science and technology.
Xi Jinping put forward five requirements on the conference:
Lay the scientific and technological fundamentals and become one of the world's leading roles in important scientific fields;
Strengthen strategic orientation and solve the problems of innovative development of technology;
Strengthen scientific and technological supply and serve main battlefield of economic and social development;
Deepen reform and innovation and form an energetic technological management and operating mechanism;
Carry forward spirit of innovation and cultivate the talents in comply with the requirements for innovative development.
This “four in one conference” is comparable with “Spring of Science” in 1978 and innovative China is “ready to start”. This historical gathering of science and technology predicts that innovative China is opening a new page. Medical device industry will also move forward together with the tide of scientific innovation. On the conference, President Xi Jinping specially mentioned in these five requirements to “make the people enjoy more livable living environment, batter medical and health services and more assured food and drugs, “reinforce the strength of support of technological innovation of middle and small-sized enterprises”, “formulate and implement policies encouraging enterprises’ technological innovation, optimize scientific research distribution of scientific research institutions and research universities, make discipline basis thick and solid and cultivate growing point of newly-developing inter-disciplines”. The guiding of these national policies will bring more attentions and supports to medical device industry where there are more middle and small-sized enterprises.
Zhao Yixin, the member of the 12th National People's Congress and president of China Association for Medical Devices Industry (CAMDI) is invited to attend this grand meeting on behalf of CAMDI. After the conference, President Zhao Yixin puts forward that CAMDI will respond to the President Xi Jinping’s call of establishing technical power and realizing Chinese Dream of Chinese nation's great rejuvenation, give full play of CAMDI’s positive role, promote scientific and technological innovation of medical device industry and promote the sound development of the industry.
